POINT PLEASANT – The Grafton High School wrestling team opened their 2017-2018 season this past weekend in Point Pleasant.
The Bearcats wrestled against some of the finest competition in the state.
As a team the Cats finished the weekend with a 2 and 6 record with wins over Lincoln and Calhoun county. The loses were at the hands of Nicholas County, Point Pleasant, Shady Springs, Sissonville, Oak Hill and Liberty Raleigh.
The top wrestlers on the weekend for the Bearcats were Noah Hodges (113) and Dillon Williams (152).
Both wrestlers were a perfect 8 and 0 in the event. Hodges continued his winning ways as he has only lost one match in his high school career.
Freshman Noah Allman went 5 and 3 in the 106 pound class while Shawn Kelley finished 2-6 at 120.
Austin Timmons went 2-2 at 132 and Garrett Ware went 4-0 at 285. Both wrestlers only competed in the Friday night event.
At 145, Colton Mead went 4-4 and Donovan Ware went 3-5 at 220.
“This was a very tough opening weekend,” said head coach Keith Zebley.
“We wrestled tough all weekend and performed well as we had a few missing Bearcats from our line-up this weekend,” he added.
The next contest for GHS will be at Fairmont Senior on Wednesday night. The first match is scheduled to begin at 6:00 pm.
