GHS volleyball season is underway

GRAFTON—The Grafton High School volleyball team has had a very full schedule for the first two weeks of the season. The Cats have played seven matches in the last two weeks, and have two more scheduled for this week.

The Lady Cats opened up the busy schedule with the South Harrison Hawks. The varsity Cats won two of the five games, with Brianna Farnsworth leading the way with eight kills, one ace and one block.

Hailey Skiles recorded three aces, one kill and one block, while Kylie Hess added one ace. Morgan Harrison also had a solid night, with five kills, two aces and three blocks.

The next opponent for the Lady Cats was Buckhannon Upshur. The Cats played well, but could not manage to win a game.

Farnsworth had one kill for the Cats, while Skiles added two aces and one kill. Rounding out the stats for the Lady Cats was Harrison with one block.

North Marion was next on the Bearcat schedule. The Cats lost in straight games to the Huskies. Kassidy Simmons led the team with three blocks and one kill, followed by Harrison with one kill. Rachel Rock had one ace and Serra Ross had the other ace for the Lady Cats.

The girls next game was against Bridgeport, and it did not go as planned for the Cats, as they lost both games. Farnsworth once again led the Cats with two aces and two kills, followed by Harrison with three kills. Skiles and Hess added an additional two kills for the Lady Bearcats.

The Cats lost their next match to Liberty, two games to zero.

The Lady Cats were shut out in their next match in Lewis County. Hannah Taylor recorded four kills followed by Farnsworth with one kill and one block. Harrison also added one kill and one block to the Bearcat stat line.

In the final contest of last week, the Lady Bearcats lost to Elkins 3—0.

The volleyball team will be back in action on Thursday night as they travel to Fairmont Senior. The game is set to begin at 6:00 p.m.
