TAYLOR COUNTY— The Taylor County 4-H program continuously offers ways for their members to express themselves using multiple different mediums.
The organization is currently offering opportunities for members and Cloverbuds to challenge themselves in several of their annual contests.
This year, there are two contests that members can choose to participate in, with the first being a poster contest.
This challenge consists of eight categories allowing participants to get creative in showcasing 4-H promotion with subcategories of general, club and special interest programs and camp, or they can select to highlight healthy living, civic engagement, agriculture, STEM or dairy.
Entrants may choose any one of the eight categories or may make one submission for each.
Additionally, the contest will be broken into four age divisions consisting of Cloverbud (five- seven years of age), Junior (eight- 10 years of age), Intermediate (11-13 years) and Senior (14-21 years).
All poster submissions must measure 22 inches by 14 inches and be created on poster board only, no foam board projects will be accepted into the contest.
County level winners will have their posters on display at the 2021 State Fair of West Virginia and will be eligible for a $25 scholarship to use toward 4-H camp.
Contestants who feel more comfortable behind the lens of a camera will also be given a chance to show off their photographic talents in the 4-H Photo Exhibition.
Photos submitted in this event should have an emphasis on 4-H activities. Each member is permitted to enter two mounted photos in either three inches by five inches or four inches by six-inch measurements. Photos must be mounted on a five by seven piece of cardstock, foam board, poster board or a picture mat.
All member photos will also be on display at the state fair, with Cloverbud photo entries being showcased at the Taylor County Fair.
Submissions for both contests must be dropped off at the Taylor County Extension Office, located at 7 Hospital Plaza, Grafton, by 4:30 p.m., on Friday, February 26.
