Posted: Tuesday, Feb 7th, 2017

GRAFTON—Snowbird visited Anna Jarvis Elementary School students on Tuesday.

Amanda Knotts, the school librarian, planned the event with the help of the Parent Teacher Organization (PTO).

According to Knotts, the PTO paid for books, t-shirts and bracelets for every student that read over the summer.

Knotts said, “The students are very excited to see Snowbird, and I want to thank the PTO for all of their support”.

PTO Members, Kelbi Harman and Elvira Summers, said, “We were happy to help, and we really encourage reading. We want to thank Black Bear Customs for the shirts, that were given to students who read over the summer.”

During the visit, the top summer readers were honored, and received a little penguin from snowbird.

This year’s top readers were third-grade student, Ryan Newlon, in first place, second- grade reader, Genevieve White, in second place and fourth-grade student, Sydney Chen, in third place.

Knotts also recognized the top readers from each grade, and presented them with a medal and certificate. The top readers were as follows: kindergarten Emmalyn Rush, first grade Baily Fernatt, second grade Genevieve White, third grade Ryan Newlon and fourth grade Sydney Chen.
