GRAFTON—One day after crews responded to a police-related shooting, they were called to the scene of another on Pearl Street, in Grafton.
According to Harrison/Taylor County 911’s media log, officers were alerted to a mandown call at approximately 12:20 p.m., on Friday.
Prosecuting Attorney John Bord confirmed that one male suspect, Danny McMasters, 38, of Grafton, was shot and fatally wounded by Sheriff Terry Austin. Bord said Austin reported he was acting in self-defense.
Officers were attempting to serve a bench warrant for McMasters, who did not appear in court, after failing to register as a sex offender, on the nation sex offender registry.
“Sheriff Austin was confronted by McMasters, who was [allegedly] armed with a pistol,” stated Bord.
McMasters was treated on scene, before being taken by ambulance to Grafton City Hospital, where he was to be transported to United Hospital Center by HealthNet. McMasters was pronounced dead at the hospital before takeoff.
The West Virginia State Police are still investigating the incident.
