GRAFTON - Being new to the Taylor County scene, Grafton-Taylor County Health Department Administrator Boyd K. VanhornVanhorn has had to learn the ropes and says his teacher has been invaluable. “I have had a great instructor. Wilda Swisher is a Jewel of Taylor County. She’s the chairperson of the board of health … and her leadership is just invaluable.”
Vanhorn is in charge of three departments within the health department, those include public health, which offers flu shots, pregnancy screenings and a variety of other health care and preventative services. He also oversees the sanitation department that handles restaurant inspections, approves septic systems and the issuing of permits. The third department is one most residents are not aware of, the Home Health department. Home Health provides skilled nursing, physical therapy, speech therapy, certified home health aides, infusion therapy, antibiotic therapy, chemotherapy, pain management, TPN therapy, enteral tube feeding therapy, PICC lines, tracheostomy care and ostomy care to those who are homebound and in need of ongoing care.
Vanhorn also announced that the health department will be upgrading their website which will include forms for permits to stream line the application process. They hope to be able to offer a way for residents to fill out forms and submit them electronically, in the future.
“We will never be the biggest Health Department in the state, but we can provide service that is just as excellent as any other department in the state or in the country for that matter,” declared Vanhorn.
