Haymond Community Center shuts down

Posted: Wednesday, Oct 2nd, 2013

Haymond School, most recently loved and appreciated as the Haymond Community Center, is scheduled to be sold in pieces later this month. See the Gallien Auction ad in today’s Mountain Statesman for sale details.

HAYMOND- Haymond Elementary School was once a thriving facility full of children eager to learn, explore and accomplish whatever their hearts’ desire. Then, in 1990, the Haymond Eagles saw their last classroom, ran their last recess and ate one last cafeteria meal. The school closed its doors, and the vacant building awaited a new purpose.

The Taylor County Board of Education (BOE) made a decision to give the building to the Haymond Community group. Haymond School became the Haymond Community Center and has since served many residents’ needs and catered a great deal of savory meals.

In September, the community announced they were not able to keep up with the operations as the volunteers and members dwindled to few and far in-between; the group was dispersing.

Since that time, the community has decided to auction off items from around the property, including; chairs, tables, a commercial range, the dish washer, pans, sinks, playground equipment, blackboards, the air conditioning and heating system, and much more. The auction is scheduled to take place in mid October.
