GRAFTON- Some very skilled and intelligent search and rescue K-9’s were on scene at the Taylor County Fair Grounds Wednesday morning. The teams of the Grafton Volunteer Fire Department’s (VFD) K-9 Search and Rescue Unit are consistently training for a variety of search and rescue situations, and were proud to announce that they just finished a state workshop where the North American Police Work Dog Association nationally certified them.

...“We set up this demonstration for the Bridgeport Police Department because they had set up a crime scene for us that helped us understand what we should and should not do when we come onto a crime scene, so in return, we wanted to share what our dogs are capable of and how well they can help in search and rescue missions,” explained Beckie Stanevich.

...Gracie demonstrated her airscent skills by searching for a victim in open grounds, Daisy Mae followed a trail of clothing to find her perpetrator and Jetty found a victim in a “collapsed” building and barked until help arrived. She also uncovered a perpetrator hiding behind a pile of gravel and ran back to her handler and squeezed a “squeaky chicken toy,” to announce her find.
