GRAFTON- Elbow to elbow, fans patiently waited for the sound of the whistle blowing to acknowledge the start of the first high school football game to be played on the new turf at McKinney Field Friday evening.

It was reported that thousands of fans came through the gate to cheer on the Bearcats and the visiting Philip Barbour Colts.

After a heartfelt dedication to the Friends of McKinney Field committee, rising stars and local country music group Taylor Made led the opening ceremonies by singing a moving acapella version of the National Anthem.

The next varsity home game will be held at 7:30 p.m. on September 13, against the Summers County Bobcats.
