Relay, all the way…

Posted: Monday, Jul 1st, 2013

Luminaria bags lined up down Main Street, to remember those who were lost to cancer, honor those who have fought cancer in the past and to support those who are still fighting the disease. Bags were bought by individuals displaying an “In Honor of” and an “In Memory of” tag.

GRAFTON- In May 1985, Dr. Gordy Klatt walked and ran for 24 hours around a track in Tacoma, Washington, raising a total of $27,000 to help the American Cancer Society in the fight for a cure. A year later, 340 supporters joined the overnight event. Since then, the Relay For Life movement has grown into a worldwide phenomenon and has raised more than $4 billion.

“The purpose of Relay For Life is to pay tribute to survivors and loved one’s lost to cancer, to raise cancer awareness and to collect funds for the American Cancer Society for research to find a cure for cancer.”
