Arch Coal to play a dominant role in the county’s future

GRAFTON – Arch Coal, Inc. recently sent four key players in the local mining industry to speak to county officials. Chuck Duckworth and his associates presented information on both the Shelby and Tucker Run Mine projects, as well as, giving an update on the Leer Mine located between Grafton and Thornton.

The Leer facility, at 95% completion, is expected to commence full-scale operation in the fourth quarter of this year. Having invested between $400 to $450 million in the facility, Arch Coal expects the facility to produce 3.2 million tons per year at full production.

Duckworth emphasized, “Acting responsibly and with integrity is the right thing to do – for us and for future generations – and it is a central tenet in the company’s long-term success.”
