Ressie Ray “June” Kennedy, Jr., age 86, of RR 2 Grafton, Webster Community, went to be with the Lord, Monday, January 28, 2013, at Rosewood Nursing and Rehab, surrounded by his family.
He was born March 7, 1926, in Taylor County, a son of the late Ressie Ray Kennedy, Sr. and Cora Belle (Mayle) Kennedy. His wife of 58 years, Roena Lois “Sis” Kennedy, survives. They were united in marriage May 10, 1954.
June enjoyed farming and riding his old Allis Chalmers tractor. Many of his friends and family members will be remembered by the nicknames with which he affectionately tagged them. He was last employed by the Taylor County Board of Education as a bus driver.
He was the owner/operator of Kennedy’s Golf Station in Blueville for more than 10 years. He worked various jobs in Michigan, of which he often spoke of with fond memories, including Sam’s Auto Wash and the Woodward and Alfred service station. He attended the West Hill Wesleyan Methodist Church.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by: six children, Rev. John Kennedy and wife Lois, of Clinton Township, MI, Gary Kennedy, of Grafton, Margaret “Peggy” DuVall and husband Jack, of Grafton, Angie Jones and husband Tom, of Grafton, Jeannetta “Jan” Mondik, of Morgantown, WV, and Roseanne “Rosy” Miller and husband Mark, of Grafton; one daughter-in-law, Maxine “Kay” Kennedy, of PA; twenty grandchildren, Beth Ann Mayle and Danny, of Royal Oak, MI, SSgt. John “Buddy” Kennedy, Jr. of Portland, MI, Tommy Ray Kennedy, of MI, David Irwin, of PA, Lisa Irwin, of Bridgeport, WV, Jeremy Kennedy, of PA, Ray Kennedy, of PA, Melissa Kennedy, of FL, Daniel DuVall and Julie, of Templeton, PA, Micah DuVall and Danielle, of Grafton, Joel DuVall, of Grafton, Diana DeWolfe and husband Joe, of Leesburg, VA, Thomas Jones III, of Grafton, Rebecca “Becky” Lupton and Brent, of Fairmont, Brittany Winninger and Josh, of Grafton, Bobby Miller, of Grafton, John Miller, of Grafton, Meagan Miller, of Grafton, Keisha Miller, of Grafton, and Kayla Miller, of Grafton; many great-grandchildren; two sisters, Christina Mayle and Sheila Sheme and husband Ronnie, of Grafton; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by: one son, Thomas Kennedy; five siblings, Wilmoth Kennedy, Juanita Kennedy, Julius “Judy” Kennedy, Beryl Eugene Kennedy, and Virginia Weaver.
Friends may call at Bartlett Funeral Home, 202 McGraw Ave., Grafton, on Friday, February 1 from 2 p.m. - 8 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, February 2, 2013, at the West Hill Wesleyan Methodist Church with the Rev. Paul Mullen, Rev. Terry Newman, and Rev. John Kennedy officiating. Mr. Kennedy will lie in repose, at the church, from 9 a.m. until the funeral hour. Interment will follow at the West Hill Cemetery.
