Richard “Chick” O’Connor, 92, of Sheffield Village, OH, formerly of Grafton, passed away on Tuesday, January 22, 2013 at New Life Hospice Center at St. Joseph surrounded by his loving family.
Richard was born December 1, 1920 in Boston, MA, to his loving parents, Patrick J. and Mary M. (Fox) O’Connor. His loving wife of 65 years, Nancy L. (Woodyard) O’Connor, survives.
Richard served in WWII in the U.S. Navy as a machinist mate 2nd Class. He was employed at B.F. Goodrich Chemical as a chemical operator for 32 years. Richard was a member of St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church, and a life member of Amvets and VFW. He enjoyed camping, gardening, and was a fan of boxing and football.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Timothy P. O’Connor and wife Rebecca, of Sheffield Village, OH, Terence R. O’Connor and wife Earlene, of Lorain OH; one grandson, Patrick J. O’Connor, of Lorain, OH; and sister, Patricia A. Pitzer, of Grafton, WV.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Edward and Robert O’Connor; and one sister, Marie Hoche.
The family will receive friends at Reidy Scanlan Giovannazzo Funeral Home, 2150 Broadway, Lorain, OH, on Friday, January 25, 2013 from 4 p.m.-7 p.m., and at Bartlett Funeral Home, 202 McGraw Ave., Grafton, on Sunday, January 27, 2013 from 5 p.m.–8 p.m. A vigil prayer service will be conducted Sunday, at 7:30 p.m., at the funeral home. A rite of Christian burial will be celebrated at 1:30 p.m., Monday, January 28, 2013, at the funeral home, with Fr. Jim O’Connor officiating. Interment at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
