Rev. Sherman G. Davidson

Rev. Sherman G. Davidson, age 70, of Benny Bryan Blvd. Grafton, WV passed away suddenly Friday, January 4, 2013 at his residence.

He was born January 30, 1942 in Rice Landing, PA a son of the late George Harold and Margaret Evelyn (Gildroy) Davidson.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years, Aldene (Gump) Davidson whom he married on November 21, 1961; one daughter, Pamela Sue Davidson at home; one sister, Martha Evelyn Davidson of Rice Landing, PA; one niece, Shaundra Bissett of Morgantown;  one nephew, Harold Thomas Davidson, Jr. of Carmichaels, PA; and his dog and best friend “Samantha.”

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Harold Thomas Davidson. 

He became a pastor in the PA Methodist Conference in 1960 and then transferred to the WV United Methodist Conference in 1962.  He was ordained an Elder in the Methodist Church in 1965 and was a Methodist pastor for 51 years.  He became the Grand Patriarch of the Grand Encampment branch of Oddfellows; the only male musician in the Rebekah Assembly of WV; member of the WV United Methodist Conference; Conference photographer for ten years; instructor for AARP driving for eight years; a volunteer at the Bread of Life Mission; president of the Republican Executive Committee of Taylor County; laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown in Washington, DC twice; member of Harmony Rebekah 51, Morgantown; Crusader Lodge 22 Oddfellows, Wadestown; member of Grand Encampment of WV; gave prayer in the US Senate for Senator Robert Byrd; gave prayer in the State Senate for Senator Dave Sypolt; and was the main speaker at the  opening ceremony of the WV National Cemetery in Pruntytown.

He attended the Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church where he was past Sunday School Superintendent.

The family will receive friends at the Donald G. Ford Funeral Home in Grafton on Tuesday, January 8, 2013 from 12:00 noon-8:00 p.m. and from 10:00 a.m. until the funeral hour on Wednesday.

Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, January 9, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Daniel Lowther, Rev. Dr. Ellis Connley, and Lay Minister James Arnold officiating.

Interment will follow at the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Thornton.
