William D. “Bill” Moore, age 83, of Rt. 1, Thornton, WV passed away Tuesday, January 2, 2013 at the WV Veterans Nursing Facility in Clarksburg.
He was born December 26, 1929 in Arden, WV a son of the late James Dowden Moore and Lena Grace (Spring) Moore.
He is survived by one daughter, Sherri A. Friend and husband Louis of Thornton; two grandchildren, Abigail Ruth Friend of Morgantown and Brandon Louis Friend and wife Elizabeth of Tunnelton; one great-grandson, Brandon Wayne Friend; one great-granddaughter, Kendra Brook Friend; one brother, Robert E. Moore and wife Billie of Thornton; one sister, Betty Runner also of Thornton; and is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife Carrie Frances (Freeze) Moore who passed away in 1999 and one sister, Deloras McIntyre and husband, James “Mac” McIntyre.
Bill was a conductor CSX Railroad Company in Grafton retiring with 40 years of service and was a veteran of the US Army serving during the Korean Conflict.
He was a member of the VFW Memorial City Post 3081 and a life member of the United Transportation Union.
The family will receive friends at the Donald G. Ford Funeral Home in Grafton on Friday, January 4 from 4:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. and from 10:00 a.m. until the funeral hour on Saturday.
Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, January 5, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Stephenie Bennett officiating.
Interment will follow at the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.
Military graveside services will be conducted by VFW Memorial City Post 3081, Taylor County Post 12 American Legion, D.A.V. Chapter 24 of Grafton, and the Army National Guard of Kingwood.
In lieu of flowers, the family wishes donations be made to the WV Veterans Nursing Facility’s Activity Program at 1 Freedom Way, Clarksburg, WV 26301.
