Norman C. Drainer, Age 88, of Flemingotn, WV passed away on Saturday, December 1, 2012, at Home Away from Home Assisted Living in Grafton, WV.
He was born May 17, 1924 in Flemington, a son of the late Wade and Lyida Drainer.
He was preceded in death by his wife Essie Drainer on December 13, 2009. Also preceding is one brother, Martin Drainer and one sister, Zelda Drainer Helmes.
Norman is survived by two sons, Clinton Drainer and wife Candy of Flemington, and Donald Drainer and wife Terry of San Diego, CA; one daughter, Jane Tapp and husband Ray of Akron, OH; six grandchildren: Lee Swanson and husband Todd, Brett Drainer and wife Myriem, Michael Tapp and wife Tiffany, David Tapp and wife Whitney, Adam Drainer, and Jessica Riffle and husband Brandon; five great-grandchidlren: Sidney Swanson, Claire and Victoria Drainer, Mary Tapp, and Lilia Drainer; also surviving is one sister, Betty Crouse of Romney, WV.
Norman graduated valedictorian of his class from Flemington High School, and was a proud Navy Veteran. He was also an accomplished author, and his books can be found in the Library at Washington, D.C. He also worked in the coalmines and then retired as a bus driver for Taylor County Schools, where he got the nick name “Geezer” by the students. He enjoyed farming, gardening, and bird watching. Norman loved the Lord and his family, and was a member of the Flemington United Methodist Church.
The family will receive friends at the Bradley J. Mayle Funeral Home in Flemington, WV on Tuesday, December 4, 2012 from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m., and on Wednesday, December 5, 2012 from 9 a.m. until the funeral hour.
Funeral Services will be conducted on Wednesday, December 5, 2012 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Clifford Schell officiating. Interment will follow in the Flemington I.O.O.F. Cemetery.
