Walter Eugene “Jeep” Stevens

Walter Eugene “Jeep” Stevens, age 76 years, a resident of Parsons, WV departed this life early Thursday morning, November 1, 2012 at his home surrounded by his family. 

He had been in declining health.

He was born Thursday, December 12, 1935 at Philippi, WV, a son of the late Willard George and Ethel Marie Shannon Stevens.  On March 19, 1960 at Parsons, WV, he was married to the former Eileen Marie Vanscoy, who preceded him in death February 28, 1993.

Surviving are two sons, David Wayne Stevens and Sonya Renee Spring of Grafton, Gregory Eugene “Greg” Stevens and wife Paula Dianne of Parsons; one brother, George Lawrence “Darney” Stevens and wife Jacqueline of Holly Meadows; one sister, Delores Mae McDonald and husband Eddie of Parsons; seven grandchildren, Tyler Stevens, Drew Stevens, Courtney Stevens, Deianaira Stevens, Ashley Wingerd, Kayla Stemple, and Lindsey Shiflett; six great grandchildren; companion, Lois Gail Kalar of Montrose; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death is one brother, John Claridon Shannon, Sr.

He was a graduate of Parsons High School with the Class of 1953.  He was a Veteran of the United States Army.  He was a former employee of Stevens’s construction and worked for Columbia Gas Co. and Mountaineer Gas Co., until his retirement during 1998. 

He enjoyed helping out at the family business, Stevens Florist delivering flowers with his brother “Darney.”  He was a member of The Pythagoras Lodge #128 A.F. & A.M. of Parsons.  Jeep enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing and woodworking.

The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons on Friday from 4 to 9 p.m.   Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home parlor on Saturday, November 10, 2012 at 12 Noon.  The Reverend James Snyder will officiate and interment will follow at the Parsons City Cemetery at Parsons, where the H.W. Daniels Post #29 American Legion and the Tygart Valley Post #3647 Veterans of Foreign War and the Tucker Co. Veterans Assoc. will conduct full military honors.
