ELLENBORO -- Highlights for the Grafton High School Bearcats were far and few in between during last Friday night’s 2012 football season finale against the home-standing Ritchie County Rebels.
The Rebels jumped into a 56-0 lead, and wound up handing the Bearcats a 63-13 defeat, which closed out Grafton’s season with a final record of two wins and eight losses.
Senior Zak Kimbrew had a 16-yard run at the 9:11 mark of the third quarter for Grafton’s initial first down of the ball game...And, three plays later, at the 7:50 mark, Josh Musgrove raced 24 yards for a second first down, as well as a touchdown for the Bearcats.
That score was set up by a 40-yard, kick-off return by freshman Brody Withers. Returning kick-offs was a bright spot for the Bearcats, as they had 10 of those plays for 235 yards, led by Withers with seven for 154 yards.
Kimbrew, who added a three-yard touchdown run at the 10:04 mark of the fourth quarter, rushed for a total of 102 yards on nine carries, accounting for a little over half of the 181 total yards for the Bearcats on this night.
Junior Zach Rowand’s point-after-touchdown kick was the final point of the season for Grafton.
For Ritchie County, Dylan Frye, Jesse Hilvers, Austin Garrett, Anthony Damsa and Orlando Burgy rushed for one touchdown apiece, with Hillers claiming the game-high rushing honors with a total of 143 yards on 11 carries.
Touchdown passes came from Rebels’ Trevor Sheplar. to Frye. in the second quarter, and from Dustin Miller. to Clayton Satterfield. late in the fourth quarter.
Plus, Tristan Ray recovering a blocked punt in the end zone, and Devon Jones returning another punt 55 yards for a touchdown aided the Rebels.
Burgy kicked nine extra-points, to complete the 63-point performance for the play-off bound Ritchie County Rebels.
