Taylor County Fairgrounds open for show and auction

Now that the lease is over and the property is back in the possession of the Taylor County Fair Board, the group is working to get more activities, such as this, back at the fairgrounds. The livestock show is scheduled for Thursday and the sale is Friday.

PRUNTYTOWN – Now that the leased Taylor County Fairgrounds has been returned to the Taylor County Fair Association, the fairgrounds are once again available to county residents.

On Thursday, July 26 and Friday, July 27 the Junior Livestock Association will be conducting its Market Livestock Show and Sale in the new livestock barn at the fairgrounds.

Thursday’s showing of the animals will give judges the opportunity to evaluate the quality of the animals, as well as, assess the ability of the 4-H and FFA members to show their animals.

According to the Taylor 4-H Extension Office, those showing hogs, goats and lambs have had their project animals since April of this year. Those showing steers would have had to acquire their animal by early November 2011. Since the acquiring of the show animals, each participant has been feeding, grooming, and training their animal in preparation for next week’s event.

The showing of market hogs is to begin at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, with the showing of lambs and goats to follow immediately thereafter. Following a break, the market steer show will begin at 6:00 p.m.
