Avilda Hope “Scoot” (Croston) Mayle

Avilda Hope “Scoot” (Croston) Mayle, age 87 of Rt. 2, (Webster Community) Grafton, WV passed away Friday, June 29, 2012 at her daughter’s residence. 

She was born October 3, 1924 in Galloway, WV a daughter of the late Ellsworth Croston and Olethy “Ollie” (Kennedy) Croston.

She was preceded in death by her late husband, Vernon Layne Mayle, who passed away on January 16, 1984.

She is survived by one daughter, Patricia S. Mayle and husband, Richard “Rich” Mayle of Webster Community.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sons, Vernon L. Mayle, Jr., Edmund L. Mayle, and Joseph D. Mayle; one daughter, Ruth Mayle; four sisters, Leota Maley, Nola Bartlett, Wanda Mayle, and Orpha Croston; four brothers, Elmer Croston, Heber Croston, Gale Croston, and Rosco Croston.

“Scoot” was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

She was a beloved wife, mother, and sister to her family and a member of the West Hill Wesleyan Methodist Church. She enjoyed her family, growing flowers, watching humming birds, reading and enjoyed church camps.

The family will receive friends at the Donald G. Ford Funeral Home in Grafton on Monday, July 2, 2012 from 3:00 p.m.-8:00p.m.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 3, 2012 at the West Hill Wesleyan Methodist Church with Rev. Paul Mullen officiating.

Interment will follow at the West Hill Cemetery. 

Mrs. Mayle will lie in state at the church from 1:00 p.m. until the funeral hour at 2:00 p.m.
