GRAFTON -- Bobby Beltner, the Taylor County Little League Baseball Association President, has released his list of all-star players for the 2012 play-off season.
Taylor County’s 9-10-Year-Old All-Stars are: Isaac Shahan and Hunter Slaton of the league-champion Pirates; Logan Beltner, Chris Miller, Garrett Moats, Devin Vanscoy and Garrett Williams of the Royals; Cabell Bolyard and Chase Setler of the Orioles; Zodak Keener and Dylan Massie of the Athletics; and Mark Irvine of the Yankees.
That group will be managed by Mike Moats, of the Royals, with Dale Miller and Chris Setler also serving as assistant coaches. They will guide their team into all-star play at 6 p.m. this Sunday, June 24, right here at Anna Jarvis Park. After drawing a first-round bye, Taylor County will be taking on the winner of Saturday’s game between Belington and Bridgeport at that time.
Three winner’s bracket games will be played in Grafton on Saturday, starting at 10 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and 3 p.m. Then, two more games will take place here at Anna Jarvis Park on Sunday, starting at 3:30 p.m., and Taylor County’s 6 p.m. match-up.
Also, a loser’s bracket contest is scheduled here at 1 p.m. on Sunday, as well as, two more loser’s bracket contests, starting at 5:30 p.m., and 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 26, before the play-offs move on to Bridgeport from that point.
Taylor County’s 11-12-Year-Old, Sanctioned-All-Star Team includes: Dominic Lough and Tommy Newlon of the league-champion Pirates; the trio of Cade Peters, Jake Williams and Dillon Williams of the Royals; the quartet of Cameron Forte, Noah Hodges, Austin Johnson and Austin Young of the Orioles; Ryan Hess of the Athletics; and Zach Shumaker of the Yankees.
Brian Lough, who guided the Pirates to the league’s regular-season -- and also the post-season-tournament -- titles, will manage this team, as the Taylor County All-Stars dream about a trip to the Little League World Series, if they can go on a long winning steak. Plus, two assistant coaches, Phil Peters and Keith Hodges, will be helping Lough out.
The Little League Baseball Sanctioned 11-12-Year-Old West Virginia District Five Play-Offs will begin on Saturday, June 30, at the Mary Lou Retton Recreation Park in Fairmont, with a pool-play format. All-star teams from Fairmont, Worthington, Belington and Upshur County will compete in Pool One, while teams from Bridgeport, Salem/Clarksburg, Shinnston and Taylor County will play in Pool Two.
Taylor County will tangle with Bridgeport at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 30, in Fairmont during its first of three guaranteed play-off games. Next, Taylor County will face Salem/Clarksburg at 7 p.m. on Sunday, July 1, back in Fairmont, before taking on Shinnston at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 3, here at Anna Jarvis Park in Grafton.
