South Cardinals need overtime to beat the North Bears in the state’s football classic

CHARLESTON -- The North Bears used a Brandon Ashenfelter (Martinsburg) to Jayson Keller (Magnolia) touchdown pass, as well as, an Eric Roberts (Point Pleasant) to Dalton Brando (Wirt County) two-point conversion pass to tie the score, at 28-28, with just 5.4 seconds left to play in the 2012 West Virginia North/South High School All-Star Football Classic that was played on the University of Charleston’s Laidley Field here last Saturday night.

The South scored eight points in overtime, with Joe Street (Chapmanville) running seven yards for a touchdown, and Zack Whitten (Lincoln County) adding a two-point conversion run to create the final score of 36-38 in favor of the Cardinals.

Grafton High School’s recent graduate, Jeremiah Deem, played in this game for the North Bears.
