Maxine McIntosh Barney, Age 91, of Simpson, WV, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, January 13, 2013 at the home of Donna Boyce in Grafton.
She was born in Simpson on December 16, 1921, one of seventeen children to the late Bruce and Viola Bartlett McIntosh.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years Jule“Babe” Barney in 1997.
Mrs. Barney is survived by two sons: David L. Barney and wife Peggy of Grafton, Donnis J. Barney and wife Judy of Simpson; one grandson Jason D. Barney and fiancé Sherri Schultz; two granddaughters: Crystal D. Forrester and husband Kelly of Simpson, Jennifer B. Forbes and husband Jerry of NC; two great-grandsons: Brandon Forrester and JW Forbes II; two great-granddaughters: Summer and Sara Beth Forbes; and one sister DorthaLee Pasco of Painesville, OH. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by nine brothers: Harry, Hayward, Benjamin, Jay, Willard, Arthur, infant Bruce Jr., baby Denzel, and baby Doe McIntosh; six sisters: Inez Martin, Carolyn McAvoy, Emily McIntosh, Helen Ondo, twin sister Geraldine Guynn, and baby Mary McIntosh; and one great-granddaughter Olivia JuleForbes.
Mrs. Barney lived most of her life in Simpson, where she was a homemaker. In the late 1960’s she was employed as a cook at the WV Industrial School for Boys in Pruntytown, and later worked at the Mountaineer Green Houses in Flemington. She was an avid gardener and took great pleasure and pride in planting and caring for all the flowers and plants that were always abundant in her yard every season. She was a member of the Simpson United Methodist Church.
The Family will receive friends at the Bradley J. MayleFuneral Home in Flemington, WV on Wednesday, January 16, 2013 from 3 to 8 p.m. Funeral Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Thursday, January 17, 2013 at 11 a.m. with Pastor Clifford Schell officiating. Interment will follow in the Simpson Cemetery. In Lieu of Flowers the Family requests memorial contributions be made to Hospice Care Corporation in Grafton, WV.
