Mary Honora “Missy” Mewshaw, went home in her sleep to be with the Lord, her Rosary at her side, on Saturday, December 1, 2012.
Missy was 93 years old, born on Friday, August 22, 1919, in DuBois, PA Clearfield, Co., the daughter of the late Margaret Gertrude (Stanley) McMartin and John Daniel McMartin. She married Karl Francis Mewshaw, June 2, 1942, in DuBois, PA, who preceded her going home to the Lord on Friday, November 17, 1978.
Missy was a 1937 graduate of St. Mary’s Catholic High School, of Dubois, PA. She was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church in Grafton, WV, for 57 years, where she was a member of the Women’s Guild. Missy gave her life to her husband and children; they were her entire life. She had a Christian set of values and strong religious beliefs that manifest themselves in her faith, love of God, love of family, and adoration to Mary, Jesus’ Blessed Mother. God will reward her for her dedication.
She was a lover of music and an avid reader, she also enjoyed watching CNN, sewing, cooking, entertaining, and playing bridge. She mostly enjoyed spending time with her sons, daughters, and their respective families.
Missy is survived by: four sons, Charlie and wife Janet of Rock Hill, SC, Calton of Grafton, Mark and wife DeAnna of Grafton, and Tommy of Hammond, IN; four daughters, Karol and husband Mike Barlow of Grafton, Martha and husband David Kramer of West Henrietta, NY, Jean Mewshaw of Parkersburg, WV, and Nancy Law of Jane Lew, WV; 12 grandchildren, David Barlow and wife Teresa, Jimmy Barlow and wife Alisa, Krista Burger and husband Michael, Karl F. Mewshaw, Yale Seils Jr., Yvette Seils, Nicholas, Danny Mewshaw and wife Jenny, Mathew, Timmy and Julie Mewshaw, and Thomas Law; eight great-grandchildren, Valerie and Kristen Barlow, Rachael Barlow, Jenna Aylestock, Nicholas Marconi, Nina Scott, and Peyton and Nathaniel Mewshaw; and one brother, Bernard McMartin of Rehoboth Beach, DE.
In addition to her husband, she was also preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers, Florence Kostecki, Martha Russell, Edward McMartin, and Patrick McMartin.
Friends may call at Bartlett Funeral Home, 202 McGraw Ave., Grafton, on Monday from 4 p.m. -7 p.m.
A vigil service with recitation of the Rosary will be held Monday, at 6:30 p.m., at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, December 4, 2012 at St. Augustine Catholic Church, 17 West Washington St., Grafton, WV, with Frs. Jim O’Connor and Jerry McSweeney as co-celebrants. Interment will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Grafton.
