Delores Jean Burton, age 88, of Gates Addition Flemington, WV, passed away on Thursday, September 20, 2012 at the WVU Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown.
She was born in Texas on August 7, 1924, a daughter of the late Edward K. and Dorothy Pauline Slyke Logue.
Mrs. Burton is survived by her two sons: David Burton and wife Luella of Simpson, and Allen Burton and wife Jeanne of Leonardtown, MD, one brother-in-law, Wilmer Plate of Little Rock, AK; five grandchildren: Jennifer Londeree and husband Dan of Huntington; Scott Burton and wife Rebecca of AL; Aaron Burton who is stationed in Norfolk, VA serving his country in the Navy; Lindsay Frazier and husband Rob of Lexington Park, MD; and Adam Burton of Tall Timbers, MD; five great-grandchildren: Emma and Claire Londeree; Elias Burton; and Owen and Jack Frazier. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Burton was preceded in death by her husband, Lawson Eugene Burton, and one sister Helen Plate.
Mrs. Burton received her BA from Salem University and then later her Masters from Marshall University in vocational education. She went on to teach math and business in the Taylor County School System where she retired with over 40 years of service. She was a member of the Alpha Delta Kappa Sorority, the Taylor County Retired Teachers Association, Business and Professional Women, and a member and Sunday school teacher at the Flemington United Methodist Church. Her hobbies included sewing, camping, playing cards, water skiing, and traveling around the US. Mrs. Burton was also an avid West Virginia and Marshall fan, who rarely missed a game.
The family will receive friends at the Flemington United Methodist Church in Flemington on Sunday, September 23, 2012 from 2 to 8 p.m., and on Monday, September 24, 2012 from 9:00 a.m. until the funeral hour. Funeral Services will be conducted on Monday, September 24, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. at the church with Pastors Clifford Schell and Jeff Vaughn officiating. Interment will follow in the Simpson Cemetery.
