Virginia Elizabeth (Miller) Hoffmann, age 94, of Rt. 1, Grafton, WV passed away Monday, September 17, 2012 at the Rosewood Healthcare Center in Grafton.

She was born November 20, 1917 in Barbour County, WV a daughter of the late George L. and Grace Evaline (Cornwell) Miller.

She is survived by her niece, Melanie D. McDaniel and husband, Charles Sheme; one great-niece, Tara McDaniel; two great-great-nephews, Shawn Cox and wife, Courtney and Grant Wolfe of Grafton; one great-great-niece Allyson Cox; two great-great-great nephews, Emmitt and Shawn II; two great-great-great nieces, Bella and Bailey; and her cousin, Maxine Burhen of Pittsburgh, PA.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Evelyn McDaniel; one nephew, Dwight “Duke” McDaniel; and one great nephew, Mike McDaniel.

Virginia graduated from Grafton High School with the Class of 1932 at the age of 14 and then from WV Business College in Clarksburg in 1938 as an Executive Secretary.  After working at the Imperial Ice Cream Co. in Clarksburg as a secretary to the manager and the Carnation Milk Company as secretary to the superintendent, she joined the US Navy where she was Yeoman First Class and the secretary to Vice Admiral P.N. Bellinger in Norfolk, VA. 

After her service with the US Navy she worked in Washington, DC as a secretary for Attorney George C. Vournas, a secretary for Steel Products Company in Savannah, Georgia, as the secretary to the Head of Research Division at the Solar Aircraft Company in San Diego, California then retired from the Freedman Artcraft Engineering Corporation in Charlevoix, MI as the Secretary of Corporation.

She was a member of the Women’s Club of Grafton and a member of the Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church in Knottsville where she enjoyed playing the organ.

She also enjoyed playing golf, growing flowers, and her pets.

The family will receive friends at the Donald G. Ford Funeral Home in Grafton on Wednesday, September 19, from 4:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m.

Funeral services will be held at the Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church in Knottsville on Thursday, September 20, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Daniel Lowther officiating.

Interment will follow at the WV National Cemetery in Pruntytown.

Military graveside services will be conducted by the VFW Memorial City Post 3081, Taylor County Post 12 American Legion, D.A.V. Chapter 24 and the Navy Operational Support Center of Pittsburgh, PA.
