Ronald D. “Homer” Knotts

Ronald D. “Homer” Knotts, age 69 of Grafton, WV passed away Sunday, January 23, 2011 at the Grafton City Hospital.

He was born in Grafton, WV, a son of the late Don and Colleen (Parsons) Knotts.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Lou (Barlow) Knotts; four children, Don and wife, Melody Knotts, of Warrenton, VA, Mary Stevens and husband, Curtis, of Montrose, PA, Veronica Jenkins and husband, George, of Philippi, WV, and Paul Knotts and wife, Mandy, also of Warrenton, VA; ten grandchildren, Steven, Maddie, and Daniel Knotts of Warrenton, VA, Trey Stevens and wife, Rebecca, Bobby and Joshua Stevens all of Arkansas, Terry Jenkins and wife, Elizabeth of Ft. Lewis, Washington, Bailey, Brady and Blake Knotts, all of Warrenton, VA; three great-grandchildren, Makayla, Kaitlyn, and Liam Stevens of Arkansas; three sisters, Betty Laulis, Polly Kitzmiller, and Sandy Clelland all of Grafton; one sister-in-law, Dorothy Knotts of Arkansas; Uncle Bill and wife, Aunt Jeane Parsons of OH, and Aunt Kath Roberts of TN; also survived by several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one grandchild, George C. Jenkins; one brother, Don Knotts, and brothers-in-law Don Kitzmiller and Ward Laulis.

Homer worked at the Grafton Shirt Factory for more than 30 years. He was currently coaching the Instructional Basketball League.

He previously has coached Biddy League Basketball, Minor League Baseball, Little League Baseball, Pop Warner Football, helped with the GHS Athletic Program since he was in high school, worked with the Special Olympics, and refereed and umpired football, baseball and basketball for several years.

All together, he has volunteered over 50 years service to the youth of Taylor County.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations of time be given toward the youth here in Taylor County.

At Mr. Knotts request, his body was donated to the Human Gift Registry.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 29, at the St. Augustine Social Center in Grafton at 1:00 p.m. The family welcomes you to attend the service and share your memories.

The Donald G. Ford Funeral Home in Grafton is handling the arrangements.
