Doris Murphy Rapplee, age 72, of Jessup, MD passed away Sunday, October 18, 2009.

She was born in Preston County, WV a daughter of the late Leo Edwards Murphy and Mary Davis Murphy.

She is survived by two children, Denise Easley and husband, Rick, of Laurel, MD and Darvin Rapplee of Jessup, MD; two grandchildren Dustin Rapplee and Ben Shannon of Jessup, MD; one great-grandchild, Tyler Shannon also of Jessup; three sisters, Nancy Locklear of Middle River, MD, Carol Moreland of Capon Bridge, WV, and Mary “Mick” Murphy Utt of Grafton, WV; four brothers, John Murphy of St. Augustine, FL, Jack Murphy of Taylor, MI, Donald Murphy of Mims, FL, and Michael Murphy of Fairmont, WV; two dear friends, Geraldine Fletcher and Velma Smart, both of Jessup, MD; also survived by several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 42 years, Darvin Murphy; one brother, Dennis Murphy and sister, Madgeula Murphy

Mrs. Rapplee was a member of the Irondale United Brethren Church in Independence, WV but regularly attended the Jessup Baptist Church in MD where she was very active. She was also a member of the Women’s Club of Jessup. Doris enjoyed the Candy Apple Red Hatters Society of which she was the founder and currently the “queen mother”.

She enjoyed traveling, country music, gospel music, sewing, and enjoyed being with her family.

The family will receive friends at the Donald G. Ford Funeral Home in Grafton on Thursday, October 22, from 1:00-8:00 p.m.

Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Friday, October 23, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Carl Trickett officiating.

Interment will follow at the Oak Grove Cemetery in Independence.
