GRAFTON—The Grafton High School freshman basketball team hosted the Fairmont Senior Polar Bears last week, in the friendly confines of the Scotty Hamilton Gymnasium.
The young Bearcats played an aggressive first half, and took a lead into the locker room at halftime, but it was not enough in the end, as the Polar Bears went on to win 55 to 45.
The Bearcats took a 20 to 18 lead on the Bears, after two quarters, and looked as if they were going to play this game to the wire.
The Polar Bears rebounding in the third quarter outscoring the Bearcats 18 to 6 which proved to be the difference in the game.
Both teams poured in 19 points in the final quarter to give us the final score of 55 to 45.
The leading point getter for the Bearcats was Jack Faulkner with 20, followed by Logan Beltner with 11 points.
The remaining Bearcats in the score book were Devin Vanscoy (9), Mark Irvine (3) and Elijah Drainer (2).
The Cats then played host to Buckhannon-Upsher on Thursday night. The Cats dominated the game on their way to a 67 to 44 victory.
Once again Jack Faulkner led all scorers with 32 points ,followed by Devin Vanscoy with 11.
The remaining Cats in the scoring column were Logan Beltner (6), Mark Irvine (2), Mason Henderson (6), Isaiah Stottlemyer (1), Elijah Drainer (5), Matt Gallo (2) and Joey Charlton (2).
The Bearcats will be back in action on Wednesday, as they play host to Preston County and then travel to Buckhannon on Wednesday night to take on Buckhannon-Upsher. For the complete article see the 02-15-2017 issue.
