Tyler Mayle (47) and Nate Moses (9) caught passes during last Saturday’s high school football scrimmage between the visiting Petersburg Vikings and the home-standing Grafton Bearcats held here on the new turf at Grafton High School. Some staff reporting learned that both teams moved the football pretty well, while both defenses struggled to create stops. In other words, the blocking was better than the tackling. That is one of the areas that the Bearcats will need to work on during tonight’s scrimmage against the Fairmont West Polar Bears inside the walls of East-West Stadium over in the Friendly City. This August 21 scrimmage should begin about 6 p.m., and it will be the final tune-up game before the Bearcats entertain the Philip Barbour Colts here on McKinney Field at 7:30 p.m. next Friday, August 30, in the regular season debut for both teams.
