Freshmen-for-Sis win powder-puff football title

Posted: Sunday, Nov 11th, 2012

IT’S UP...IT’S GOOD! Freshman Maggie Defenbaugh (left) kicks one of her four two-point conversions out of the hold by Shanna Curry during last Friday’s Grafton High School Powder-Puff Football Championship Game that was played on McKinney Field. The Freshmen-for-Sis beat the seniors, 46-0, to claim the title.

GRAFTON -- It was not the first-round, play-off game that Grafton High School Football Fans had hoped for back in August. Nevertheless, a championship game was played here on McKinney Field last Friday night.

The Freshmen-for-Sis laid a 46-0 beat down on the Senior Strong, to win the championship of the Grafton High School powder-puff football title. Earlier in the tournament, the Freshmen-for-Sis had defeated the Junior Jedi, 30-6. In the other two games, the Senior Strong claimed a 24-19 victory over the Sophomore Sensation, and the consolation game featured the Junior Jedi beating the Sophomore Sensation, 38-18.

The Freshmen-for-Sis ran an offense that would have made the old-school USC fans proud. They ran student-body-right all night long, as Kaelyn Drainer did her best to imitate the moves of O. J. Simpson, Ricky Bell, Anthony White and Marcus Allen, all rolled into one.

After Senior Strong Coach Adam Ware called the game, “a lock for his team to win,” Freshmen-for-Sis Coach Mike Drainer vowed, “to let his daughter run for 500-yards before he took her out of the backfield.”
