PRUNTYTOWN -- After being idle since January 14, all four of the Taylor County Middle School (TCMS) Basketball Teams finally had the chance to play some basketball...And, this action marked just the second game for all four teams during the entire Month of January.
Obviously, all of that idle time proved costly to the Knights and the Lady Knights, as they lost three out of their four games with the Tucker Valley Wildcats last Thursday evening.
The Seventh-Grade Knights was the only local team to record a victory over Tucker Valley, as they improved their record to 6-0, with a 35-25 decision here in the TCMS Gym.
Knight Bryan Rosencrance captured the game’s high-scoring honors with ten points, with Jyron Stull (nine), Mitchel Crutchfield (seven), Broderick Harvey (four), Chasen Bush (three) and Jacob Morgan (two) rounding out the 35-point performance by the home team. Meanwhile, the trio of Chase Alkire, Anthony Gwynn and Danny Goss tossed in six points apiece to lead the Wildcats.
In the nightcap, an undefeated Tucker Valley squad claimed a 30-25 triumph over TCMS, which saw its record fall to 5-3 on the season, to force a split of this twin bill.
Tucker Valley’s Mikhail Lewis tossed in a game-high total of 12 points, while James Haddix (seven), Skylar Rucker (seven), Alex Aichele (four), Alex Gabbert (two), Cody Gawthrop (two), Andrew Heston (two) and Tyler Keener (one) provided the 25 points for Coach P. D. Louzy’s Knights during this losing effort.
At the same time that those two games were being played here, the TCMS Lady Knights were being swept by the home-standing Tucker Valley Lady Wildcats over in Parsons.
In the seventh-grade game, Tucker Valley recorded a 42-20 triumph over the visiting Lady Knights, who slipped to 5-3 on the season.
The duo of Lydia Mullenax, with 14 points, and Josie Mullenax, with 11 points, led the Lady Wildcats to victory, while Mackenzie Cox (eight), Brittany Marcavage (five), Alex Ross (three), Treyanne Cline (two) and Lexi Freeman (two) provided the 20 points for the Lady Knights.
Then, in the nightcap, the undefeated Eighth-Grade Lady Wildcats, now 11-0, pulled out a 42-34 triumph over the previously undefeated Eighth-Grade Lady Knights, now 8-1, to complete the sweep of the twin bill.
After TCMS jumped into a 14-6 lead in the opening quarter, Tucker Valley rallied to win 12-4, 10-5 and 14-11 verdicts during the second, third and fourth periods, respectively.
