Kenneth W. Kromer, Sr., 92, of Parker Avenue, Scottdale, PA passed away at August 17, 2008. Ken was born August 5, 1916 in Everson, Fayette County, a son of the late Jacob and Bertha Matthee Kromer.
Ken retired from G.C. Murphy in Baltimore, MD where he served as general manager. Ken graduated from Scottdale High School, Class of 1934 and was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Scottdale. He was a member of the Marion Masonic Lodge #562 of Scottdale; a Past Master of Weirton, WV Lodge #171, AF & AM; Affiliated Past Master of Howard Lodge #101, AF & AM of Elkridge, MD; Past Patron of Knoxville, TN #69 Eastern Star; Past Commander of American Legion Post #24 of Frostburg, MD; member of Scottish Rite and Kerbela Temple of Knoxville, TN; Charter member of West Knox Shrine Club of Knoxville, TN; and Past Merit Badge Counselor for Boy Scouts in Morse Code & Semaphore of Ft. Steuben in Council, OH. A veteran of WWII, he served in the US Navy as a radioman in the Pacific Theater of Operations on Flag Ship LCT#1167 for groups 78-79-80-81 of the Flotilla 27th Amphibious Force. He earned the Navy Commendation Medal, American Campaign Medal, Asiatic Campaign Medal, WWII Medal, and the Philippine Liberation Medal. After his discharge he continued in Ham Radio with License WB3JXZ. His hobbies included Genealogy, Model Railroad Building, and Stamp Collecting.
Ken will be sadly missed by his devoted family; his wife, Elsie Lorraine Berkey Ellis Kromer; his son, Kenneth W. Kromer, Jr. and wife Beverly of Follansbee, WV; his two grandchildren, Michael Scott Kromer and wife Charmaine (Jones) of Nashville, TN and Benjamin Daniel Kromer and wife Camilla Elaine (Owens) of Knoxville, TN and their mother, Lindsay Miller Kromer of Knoxville, TN; his great grandchildren, Gage Lucas Kromer and Madison Alicia Kromer, both of Nashville, TN; his step-daughter, Dr. Lydia Weisser and husband Dr. Bud Weisser of Jackson, MS; his step-son, Charles R. Ellis of Scottdale; and a step-grandson, Alexander Weisser. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Alice (DeMoss) Kromer on Dec. 4, 1999; five brothers, Jacob, Louis, George, Clarence, and Ralph Kromer; and three sisters, Margaret Seneff, Irene Parsons, and Hazel Winberry.

Family and friends were received from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home chapel where funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday with Pastor Matthew C. Stabe officiating. Additional viewing will be held from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Friday, followed by committal services, military rites, and entombment at Highland Memorial Park & Cemetery, Knoxville, TN.
